I’m using my morning post this morning to share some sad news with all of you. I’m sure there nothing I could have said that is more important than the loss of a human life, one that was as beloved as his. I’m posting this story because it needs to be shared but also because my story has a similar parallel, the only difference is I survived. His story is heart wrenching, I hope you’ll take a moment to honor his life and more importantly his love.
As some of you may have heard, Wilfried Knight, the award winning and prolific gay performer, has committed suicide.
The German born and French raised performer had a series of career achievements over the past decade, including his roles in Lucas Entertainment’s Assassin and Raging Stallion’s Focus/Refocus, a 2010 GayVN Award for Performer of the Year, and a 2011 Grabby for Best Versatile Performer. As is often the case with performers of his stature, Knight’s warm, charming, and by all accounts hilarious sense of humor belied his rugged and intimidating 6’2″ and nearly 200lbs physical presence.
Wilfried, who was only 35 years old, took his life over the weekend due to the overwhelming grief he’d suffered at the loss of his long time partner Jerry Enriquez who also committed suicide earlier this month.
Just over a week ago Knight posted a lengthy blog entry in which he blasted the cult-like abuse of Enriquez by the Canadian yoga apparel company that had employed him. In a entry posted earlier, Knight noted that since he and his partner were married in Canada, he had no inheritance rights regarding the Atlanta house owned by Enriquez, whose family is taking everything.
Knight’s suicide also follows the recent deaths of several other well-known figures from gay porn, including Arpad Miklos last month, director John Bruno and Colt Studios’ Karim in January, plus Josh Weston, Roman Ragazzi, Adam Faust, Corbin Fisher’s Sean, Tanner Hayes, and Erik Rhodes in 2012.
Here are a few photos I had of Wilfried Knight.
Rest in Peace!
